Crux

I found out that this was the name often given to the Southern Cross, a constellation peculiar to the southern climes. Unlike up here in't north, they don't have a pole star to mark the pole. You have to locate the Southern Cross and the pointers, guess a little and bingo, that's the south pole.

Anyway, I'd never done one of these before and was gutted when we found our visit to the outback coincuded with a bloomin full moon, so that's all the star light completely overpowered from the word go. The moon didn't rise here till a bit later so just went for the 3574 second exposure - I realised afterwards it left a lot of hot pixels so will try the multiple exposure route next time.

Waratah Bay again, by the way. We were staying in the house you can see for the week :)
