people believing they're unobserved

Concerning people in their 'secret' state, i passed a cubicle at work at the exact moment that the woman who worked in it happen to lift up her purse and smell of it.

She saw me go by and i slowly backed up and asked, "Did you just smell your purse?"

"You know," she laughed, "I did. You caught me sniffing my purse."

"Do you mind if i ask why?"

"It's kinda funny. My mother-in-law smelled my purse yesterday and i just remembered that and so wanted to see what she was smelling."

We both laughed and though i was tempted to bring out my wallet and sniff it, i did not. I walked off. When i told a friend about the encounter she asked bluntly, "Well, what did it smell like?"

That, for some reason, i felt was none of my business. I wonder why?

I love the unexpected perspective here. The horse shoe also offers an interesting metaphorical touch

I smell books. There. I said it.

well, to be honest. I like the smell of old books. It's as if the words and the aging edges of the paper give an antique feeling to them. Like wine, or something.

There aren't many of us purse sniffers around anymore. Another loss for mankind, I fear.

Wonderful photo of an intimate moment, with an amazing arrow pointing. This is a gem. I love the story too. Thanks for sharing it. My husband and son both like to smell gifts and new things. My son to such a degree that his sisters watch for it and laugh delightedly (they're adults now). I like my own foot smell but don't tell anyone.

Hey nice shot! And thank you so much for putting a creative commons license on it :) I used it for the web site of the organization I'm working for (we take care of international volunteering projects).
The link is www.incoweb.org but we are still working to renew it, it should be ready by next week...you'll just need to have a look at "servizio volontariato europeo" and then "informazioni per volontari stranieri" and you will see it! :)

    Thanks again!
