      iPad app, and sweet!

Mellotronics M3000 HD – The $12 iPad Mellotron » Synthtopia

Now if only I could control it from my MIDI keyboard and run its output into my recording studio....

Still, it's fantastic to whip out a Mellotron while stuck in an office or bus station and start playing "In The Court of the Crimson King" or something by Pink Floyd.

I'm still waiting for someone to replicate a Roland CR78 drum machine for the iPad. I might just have to suck it up and see if I can find a real one though.

I used to have a recording studio; the thing I miss most is my Yamaha DX7 with multi-timbral E! card. www.maths.abdn.ac.uk/~bensondj/html/dx7.html That instrument was incredibly responsive (aftertouch!), making it capable of subtle and powerful performances. It was wonderful to play and program. I could make it sound like anything. I always felt most people (even Prince!) didn't really get synthesizers. They always made them sound like synths. And they always went for that big fat sound, with no nuance, no sensitivity. They saved their musicality for voice and guitar (and in Prince's case, really, anything, except the synth).
