The Effect of Experience on Photography

The first photographs I took were documentary photographs of the Star of David. It happened when I researched the Star of David. It took me years before I learned to separate the Star of David symbol indicating Judaism from the Israeli flag symbol indicating Israeli national identity. After this realization I stopped to shoot documentary photographs of the Israeli flag, but I came back to shoot artistic photographs of Israeli flags when I finished my research and started to shoot artistic photos. Anyway, what I wanted to say is that I feel I had to shoot the hundreds of photos of the Israeli flag I shot so far for being able to shoot this one.

הצילומים הראשונים שצילמתי היו צילמים תיעודיים של מגני דוד. זה קרה כשחקרתי את סמל המגן דוד. לקח לי שנים עד שלמדתי להפריד בין סמל המגן דוד שמציין יהדות, לבין דגל ישראל כסמל נפרד שמציין ישראליות. אחרי התובנה הזאת הפסקתי לצלם צילומים תיעודיים של דגלי ישראל, אבל חזרתי לצלם צילומים אמנותיים של דגלי ישראל כשגמרתי את המחקר והתחלתי לצלם צילומים אמנותיים. בכל אופן מה שרציתי להגיד זה שאני מרגיש שהייתי צריך לצלם את מאות הצילומים של דגל ישראל שצילמתי עד כה בשביל לצלם את הצילום הזה
