London Candid # 7
London diary April 6th ....
back from Wales yesterday
and a stunning last morning in London . blossoms outside and hot sun . 21C
walk for the last time in Holland park and listen to the sweet bird song and see a robin and a magpie singing poetry to the sun itself
then a long route on the tube with the heavier luggage than expected . the long ride out on the PIccadilly line out to Heathrow . cash in the Oyster card and spend our last quids on M&S yummy food .
digital check in is perplexing and scurrying thru luggage for liquids . security finds my large jar of special Marmite . XO . an aged brand and confiscate it . sigh . i never even opened it to see how it tasted .
turn a corner and there is a bar with huge Warholesque paintings of ... Marmite jars . too much .
delayed flight , but great seats and nice times . leave my home country at 4pm .
from the heat to the storm .
Seattle and friendly customs . and a walk to the skytrain . brooding huge clouds . cumulus nimbus .
pouring rain downtown . we take a cab to the hotel
and then we walk to the space needle . nearby . dark and deserted everywhere . except one downonhis luck fella jumps for joy when lightining and thunder crash around us .
we look up at the towering space needle tower and scurry away . looking for food in desperation . only a Subway open .
get moved at 11 pm to another room cos of an unknown rumbling machinery noise nearby .
next morning we walk to Lake Union and at the floatplane terminal they tell us they have 3 seats left . we almost jump for joy . we get 50% off as student standby .
my wife sits in the co pilot seat , cool view and 30 mins later we are touching down in Victoria's gorgeous harbour
the sun follows us and comes out as soon as we arrive home . the first warm sunny day for ages we are told .
home sweet home .
