after braving the giddy heights of Notre Dame, we stopped to rest in an small park adjacent to the river and noticed a steady flow of people queuing, and then being allowed down a small stairway ..


we decided to take a look for ourselves and followed the steps into a small white crypt, almost at water level, serving as a memorial to the many, primarily Jewish, French victims of the Nazis during the Second World War .. the 200,000 lights in this photo represent the number of deportees sent from France to Nazi concentration camps
