Silverton!!!

    Newer Older

Just got back from a SICK trip to Silverton CO. For those who don't know, this place is just awesome. You're required to ski with a probe, beacon, and shovel at all times. It is entirely advanced and expert terrain. Basically a backcountry area with a little lift to help you up to the top.

People everywhere bitch and moan about how the mountain is flat, boring, with no snow, the guides suck, people skiing are wanna-be's, and its all hype.
    WTF???
I challenge anyone who agrees with the above to a good old gentlemen's duel-settle this the old fashioned way!

Sure your home mountain (CB, Mt Baker, Jackson's Hole) might have steeper runs, bigger cliffs, more snow, rainbows coming out of every crevasse-whatever. This place gets great snow, it has TONS of great terrain, especially for the price. There are definite no-fall runs, mando airs, and cliffs and cornices Shane Mcconkey would hesitate at. For the rest of us, there are just a plethora of trees and bowls for the intermediate to expert skiers. Sorry haters, its just good fun! Maybe if you come don't expect to be scared out of your mind at every turn?

If you're still a hater-gentlemen's duel. Bring it

So glad to hear you made it there and had a great time. REALLY special mountain, huh? No, it's not for everyone. But for those who like extreme terrain and are willing to work some for it, Silverton's tough to beat. And it has so much character... I like the school bus for the rental shop and the tent for the base lodge and best of all, the ups truck for the shuttle bus!

Next time I go, I'll be prepared with a smaller camera though. The scenery is just too stunning to miss. Congrats on the great shot and on having made it to Silverton!

      Thanks all!
Mike-I agree completely. The 'base area' and 'shuttles'-totally cool! I was hoping the entire trip to get some night shots like you posted a while back with the really full moon, but wouldn't you know it it was cloudy until the minute we left. Was one of those shots the mountain right outside of town?

      Love the shot!

your pictures and how you have procesed most of them are sick! I love this kind of "dramatic" looking pictures and what I read from your profile info that you have only photographed since -08 and can deliver pictures like this is amazing! Love to see what you can do after couple more years :D and about the Silverton ski area I don´t know anything about the place but I googled pictures from the area and I think the place looks like really cool place and if someone can´t find good skiing/snowboarding from there they should come to Finland and get some kind of reality check :D
