Chip-enabled Charles Schwab Bank Visa Debit Card
Charles Schwab Bank. A bank for continent hopping, finance-savvy and quite likely wealthy clientele who aren't in any hurry to get their money.
Their debit card really saves me on foreign exchange when I visit Canada, as it's among the few debit cards that feature no foreign exchange fees and ATM rebates worldwide.
The account itself feels somewhat like their brokerage account - newly added funds can take a while to become available, and you need to look through columns of numbers to figure out which deposits have cleared.
Thus, I have USAA checking as my day to day transactional account; its ease of use is top tier. The transfers are snappy - USAA instantly credits part of it into your available balance on just your reputation, even before they get the money from the other bank. The ability to set your own password recovery security preferences is smart. Their discounts on Hertz and FedEx are incredible. I like to keep a good amount in my USAA account at all times, and use it whenever I can. (If only Schwab offered such benefits and features...)
But on the rare occasion that I plan to travel outside of the U.S., this is one of the cards I take.
When I need to set aside relocation expenses, hold onto a deposit for a while, save up for a project or otherwise need to make sure funds are safe, available and not unintentionally spent, I leave it to Chuck.
I don't know quite the reason why, but Chuck Schwab's Bank just seems like the very safest place you could keep your money.
