New York Public Library, Nov 2012 - 20

There's a long, stone "courtyard" (for lack of a better term) that runs northward from the main entrance of the building up to 42nd Street, as well as a similar one that runs southward from the main entrance down to 41st street. These courtyards are about 20 feet wide, and they occupy the space between Fifth Avenue and the front wall of the library itself.

Metal chairs and tables are scattered through this area, and it's common to see individuals sitting alone, reading a book, drinking a cup of coffee, or sending a text message … like this young woman.
