New York Public Library, Nov 2012 - 12

The same main, massive reading room on the upper level of the library -- but photographed from the opposite end of the room, i.e., facing north.

Note the presence of (gasp!) real books on the bookshelves on the walls around the room ...

Note also the ornate ceilings and the Renaissance-style paintings of clouds and sky up in the ceiling.

Once again, what impressed me the most about this room was the utter silence. You could literally hear a pin drop (not that anyone goes around dropping pins these days … but if they did so in this room, you would hear it).

Note: I chose this as my "photo of the day" for Dec 15, 2012.

Note: this photo was published in an Dec 15, 2012 issue of Everyblock NYC zipcodes blog titled "10018."
