I can walk faster than Blondie over there, but I want people to see my purple socks

(more details later, as time permits)

I have visited Rome's Piazza del Popolo on several occasions over the past 38 years, and have taken numerous photos there. As it turns out, most of my visits have been in the afternoon, and I have simply walked around the broad, open plaza to photograph whatever interesting sights and people presented themselves. (For photos from a morning visit, see Sunday morning at Piazza del Popolo, Nov 2009).

On this visit, in the fall of 2010, my first afternoon was spent observing people walking through, and around, Piazza del Popolo in the rain -- as I sat watching them from the safe haven of a canopy at the nearby Cafe Rosati. You can see the results of these late-afternoon rainy-day photos in a Flickr set titled Umbrellas in the Rain - Rome, Nov 2010

By the next day, the rain had stopped ... so I came back to the Piazza del Popolo, to see who would appear. It was late in the afternoon, on a Tuesday, so there were people walking home from work, as well as shoppers, students, and tourists. Young people, old people, nondescript people; plain people, beautiful people, and a few who looked quite lost and lonely. Someone's cat stared mournfully at a fallen bicycle, and someone's dog wandered around aimlessly ... all, in all, it was a typical afternoon in the piazza.
