This is a continuation of a set that I created in 2009 (shown here ) and 2008 (shown here ) to show a variety of scenes and people in the small park known as Verdi Square, located at 72nd Street and Broadway in New York City's Upper West Side.

Michael W. May, wizardjks, MARCConline, and 6 other people added this photo to their favorites.

That's so sad. There is a homeless man that sleeps at my part-time job now

Yes, it is sad -- and it makes me feel really bad, because I find myself thinking (you'll appreciate the religion here), "There but for the grace of God go I."

I know nothing about this man, or his background, or the details of his present situation ...but scenes like this remind me, once again, of how incredibly lucky I am to have the comfortable lifestyle that I have...

When people like this man are awake, I often give them a small donation, though I don't know if it really helps them. As it turns out, this particular photo was published today in a PopTech blog; and I do hope that, from time to time, photos like these will actually provide some positive benefit...

Well, I have that a lot of the poorer people respond to the Kingdom message more readily than those with more in the way of material things. Of course, providing a warm meal benefits them, but the greater value is helping people come under God's Kingdom

Doesn't it make you want to know his history? What brings a person to this point in life. But sometimes I think it would be easier, No worry about what you wear, who you know, if you combed your hair,if you spilled something on you shirt, Or if you got the latest and great.

Well, it made me sad to see him sitting on a bench in such terribly cold winter weather.

I've been thinking a lot, lately, about talking to people like this guy -- of whom there are several in various parts of NYC. I don't want to take advantage of them in any way, but I think it might help if the more people could see, "there but for the grace of God go I." A lot of these people grew up in a normal way, lived a normal life, had a normal job, and then gradually started a long, slow descent into their current existence of quiet desperation...

Hi, just wanted to inform you that a german racist organisation is using this picture for their hate speech against homeless people in Hamburg: www.facebook.com/SauberesHamburg?fref=ts
"Initiative Sauberes Hamburg" means "Initiative Clean Hamburg" and intends to "clean" the city from homeless people. The responsible person(s) behind this organisation are unknown as the act anonymous and also registered their domain via WhoisGuard.
Best regards from Germany and sorry for these bad news!
