Iran Esfahan Chehel Sotun _DSC7268

Newer Older

The inside of Chehel Sotun's main hall is as beautiful as it is hard to photograph. The dark space, with light streaming in from the north and south facing side windows creates high contrast and strong reflections on the wall, making it very difficult to capture the fine detail or the glimmering golden highlights. The external light combined with the tungsten lights play havoc with the white balance on a DSLR, making colour fidelity in the frescoes a bit of a guessing game. In the end I decided to combine the many photos I took in the main hall to create a composite image of the entire ceiling.
