    Thanks all!

My nephew seemed pleased, and was very insistent that he got to have the figurines - out with Mr and Mrs Architectural Silhouette, in with the Jelly Baby clan!

    The lake was coloured gelatine.

excellent, what a fabulous idea and so well done.

    Thanks John!

The idea was quite obvious, being so topical. Working out how to realise it was the challenge.

I was dreading that Harry would die, which would have been a bit of a downer for the cake!

Wow ! How long did it take you to make ?

  5. Yersinia 82 months ago | reply

Well, I painted the jelly babies on Friday, so they'd have time to dry, and my mum baked the cakes then. We did most of the decoration on Saturday, but I added the windows on Sunday morning.

It felt like I was spending all day on it, but I did manage to read the last book within 24 hours of its release too, so I guess I had plenty of breaks, really!

    Absolutely awesome.

You have got to start making some GWLs in cake form...

    Now, there's an idea!

I know mondo submitted some sketches...

Excellent idea - how about some Wren churches to start off with, some of them have wedding cake spires anyway.

  9. Yersinia 82 months ago | reply

Hmm. You know how Wren churches make Ben twitch...

Power Stations would be easy, but probably too recognisable. This sort of gasometer would be easy, but I'd need to do some surrounding landscaping to put it in context...

I did have ben's passion for Wren in mind when I suggested them - I don't suppose it would be too difficult to make a cake looking like a few bricks and a manhole cover somewhere in SE99, which is the GWL cliche cryptic shot. Anything so long as it's not a bloody Banksy cake anyway.

A Barbican cake. It's got to happen.

  12. Yersinia 82 months ago | reply

    Too easy to guess, shurely...

  13. Ben__Patio 82 months ago | reply

    Not to guess. To eat.

  14. Yersinia 82 months ago | reply

    Ah. To EAT.

Well, if the weather ever becomes predictable enough for a picnic gloatfest, I was thinking of baking.

However, I rather thought that things that will survive in a box in the bottom of my pannier, such as brownies and scones, might be more appropriate than decorated cakes which are likely to be destroyed in transit.

Have just seen this - fantastic. He must have been real chuffed.

    Heh!

    Thanks helen!

This time I didn't have any brief - I like it best when they are quite definite about what they want, e.g. last year, for this nephew, it was "I want a jungle scene with six tigers". Often they have themed parties, and that helps (pirates, cowboys and injuns, etc).

This time, it just came down to the most topical thing we could think of. But it went down well.
