111 - Hiroshima - Peace Memorial Park

The Children's Peace Monument, erected to honor Sadako, a child who was two years old when the bomb hit. At the age of 11 she was diagnosed with Leukemia, most likely due to radiation exposure. She died at the age of 12 after folding more than 1000 paper cranes based on an ancient legend that said anyone doing so would be granted a wish. Since then paper cranes have been a symbol of peace in Hiroshima.
