Sumela Monastery, Trabzon

Can't really imagine the first person who thought it would be a great idea to build on a cliffside - but it is AMAZING how it turned out.

Saw all your photos from my home page!

Come to Arizona, Utah and Colorado. The Anazazi Indians built in cliffs, the best place is Mesa Verde NP.

This seems a bit more precarious than the Mesa Verde cliff dwellings....congrats on making the flickr blog (me too!)

Nice shot. I also have visited the monastery about 20 years ago. Heavy rainfall destroyed the road so they put us in little buses and drove us over a mud road heavily sliding around at the border of a scarp face. I will always remember this!
