RFID front door lock

The final setup, in place. The reader can work through glass easily. The wire out the bottom goes to the basement, where there's a relay board.

This is superb. It's too bad the bland plastic cases for card reader are so ubiquitous. I looked that the blog post and didn't see what the group number window was made out of. Spray painted acrylic?

dustinandrews1970: the group number window is actually lasercut wood veneer. By using thin, light-colored veneer (I don't have the specs right now, but I think 1/32" sounds right. It was the thinnest I could find) and then using the laser cutter to etch it down even thinner, I was able to not only color the wood, but also thin it to the point where the LEDs shine through it.
