Terra Nova- Lowest place on earth

Newer Older

The Dead Sea is a salt lake between the West Bank and Israel to the west, and Jordan to the east. At 420 metres (1,378 ft) below sea level, its shores are the lowest point on Earth that are on dry land. At 330 m deep (1,083 feet), the Dead Sea is the deepest hyper saline lake in the world.

This group is part of a series of more then 100 groups. Many of them have just been created but not fully integrated in the series yet.

A large image version of the group pools is shown here. Check it out. The show is impresive if you select the large photo size inside the flickriver show. Inside flickriver you can use the space button to show the next image like a slide show would do it. The show will get even better now because I no longer invite photos that don´t show a large version in this tool.

The list of the other groups is here. The groups that where fully linked first are shown in the badges below.

This group is part of a new series that assembles some of the best photos found on flickr in a series of linked groups with a narrow topic in each group.

This group will only accept photos invited by its administrator. One of the places the administrator will check for invitable photos will be the submission queue of the group itself. So if one of your photos is good enough just try to add it to the group and see if it ends up in the group pool.

There are no formal requirements for entry into the group pool. But I expect that the photos that have the required quality will have 10 to more than 100 favorites already. And a lot of comments and views too. But the main selection criterium is the simple question "Would I be disappointed if my invitation was declined?" So an amazing photo with just 20 views and nothing else gets invited if it passes the test of this question.

Frames should be minimal or better not there at all. A collection of images with different frames rarely looks good on a computer monitor.
I have created two special groups for the photos that are amazing but have a distracting frame.

The photo needs to show a large version the viewing tool from flickriver.com. Otherwise I wont invite your photo into this group series. I found that the large image view on flickriver to be one of the most important and impressive features of the group. I did not yet pay attention to the size for my first few invitations. So you´ll see some small images too.

If your photo does not show a larger version even in flickrs own slide show viewer your photo might be removed from the group later. Photos with restrictions on showing larger sizes behave differently in those two players. I have not yet figured out why.

I´ll start with just me as administrator of the complete group series of more than 100 groups. But I will need help to get all groups running at a more reasonable speed. If you want to help with the inviting send me a flickr mail.

This group series finally gets right what my first try with the 5 FAV group series just attempted. The 5 FAV series is useful for those members that want to show their less popular photos. In that group series your photo only needs 5 favorites to get into the group pool. And your photo will still be in excellent company.

Congratulations on receiving more than 25,000 views, that's quite impressive! You might want to consider graduating this photograph from the 'Views: 10000' group to the 'Views: 25,000' group, which can be found here: www.flickr.com/groups/views25000/

Once again, congratulations and hopefully your photos will receive many more views in the future!
