Dramatic Dusk at Rügen, Germany
Upon hiking along the coast of the Jasmund National Park on Rügen, Germany's largest island, the weather eventually started to become interesting, turning into the dramatic view shown in this picture. On the sea, you can actually see a small sailing boat.
The coast you see are the chalk cliffs of Rügen. This part of the coastline of Rügen is under constant erosion, cliffs toppling over, and in the foreground of the picture, you can see how chalk of a crashed down part is put into the sea. The cliff in the back of the coast line is the most famous one, the "Königsstuhl" (King's Chair). Rising 118 m (~360 feet) above sea level, its name is rumored to originate from a large sea battle between Swedes and Danes in 1715, during which the exhausted Swedisch King Karl XII ordered to bring him a chair. Other rumors point the name source to even older times, before 1584.
This picture is a HDR composed out of three exposures. The Tokina 11-16mm lens was used for a large viewing angle.
