      ... actually used a payphone as the recording microphone! The demonstration lady does not look like she is a thousand times thrilled. Isn't calling the manufacturing company 'mutoscope' sort of counter-productive?

      The original Mutoscope was a flip-book movie machine, found in penny arcades. Put your penny in the slot, turn the crank, the lady appeared to dance for you.
