      Even twenty years after the war, people still referred to any overly complicated machine or process as a "Rube Goldberg."

      He was a bit before my time, but I think Goldberg was either a syndicated newspaper cartoonist or was regularly featured in one of the national magazines of the period. I've only ever seen his stuff as reprints. This particular cartoon was commissioned by the Philco Corp.
