Skulpturenpark Köln / Cologne Sculpture Garden. Dirk Skreber: sculpture "Reaktor", 2009. Car, steel, sprayed concrete, wood, and gravel

This remarkable work of art conveys the energy of producing, of speed, and of destruction. The idea is that you feel the energy of producing, the energy of speed, and the energy of destruction when you walk around the wrecked car. A stairflight leads you downward so that you can study the object from all sides - even from underneath. After that your inner battery should be recharged with power. So as a beholder and contemplator you actually are becoming part of the sculpture which would be incomplete without you.

On the other hand there are more negative associations: The artist coined the term "blood speed" for his series of sculptures which hints an the dangerous and destructive aspects of road traffic.

From a personal point of view I can say that Dirk Skreber's powerful work "Reaktor" charged me with photographic energy.
