Hooked up the microscope this evening for the first time since its holiday arrival. Had been anticipating the first drop of pond water since the day we opened it.
Fun little evening spying on mosquito wigglers. Fun to spot. Fun to catch. Fun to squirt onto the slide. And fun to watch swim around helplessly on in a tiny drop of water surrounded as we temporarily feel in control of a species that is such an irritation. This weekend, we speculated: we accept that if we could suddenly remove all mosquitos from our planet, there would be unanticipated and severe pertubations to the entire global biosphere -- but we quickly decide: let's give it a try anyway.
