Sunset Demon Over The Sierra
Best viewed large.
After we left Death Valley, we drove west to Lone Pine and stayed there two nights. I was in the Alabama Hills for a sunset at the Whitney Portal Arch. There were no clouds in the area and so I began to hike back to my truck. On the drive down the Whitney Portal road, I looked north, toward the town on Independence and saw this spectacular cloud formation off in the distance. So when I got down to US 395, I headed north at high speed (won't tell you how fast I drove) and pulled off on a dirt road and set up to capture this scene.
In landscape photography, you need to be willing to shift gears and go where the action is. This shot required a 24 mile RT trip out of my way, but I think it was worth it.
