Amtrak Cascades - Stanwood Station
On Nov. 21, 2009, the Washington State Department of Transportation and the residents of Stanwood celebrated the opening of a new train station. Located on the northeast corner of 271st Street NW and 84th Avenue NW, the station gives residents of the Stanwood-Camano Island area access to Amtrak Cascades intercity passenger trains that travel between Portland, Seattle, Vancouver, BC , and ten intermediate communities.

The Washington State Legislature provided WSDOT with $5 million to construct the new train station platform. Construction started in April 2009 and the station was completed in November. The station platform is 600 ft. long and has two passenger waiting shelters to protect rail travelers from the elements. The shelter design was selected by a local community group known as Design Stanwood.

The completion of this project adds another transportation option for the Stanwood/Camano Island community, helping to reduce congestion on SR 532 and Interstate 5, and supporting the Stanwood/Camano Island-area tourism industry and local economic development in the vicinity of the station. The last time passenger trains stopped in Stanwood was 38 years ago.
