SR 20 traffic switch in Burlington - 2009, 03-24
New roads, traffic signals greet SR 20 drivers in Burlington

Crews opened two new roads, turned on two new traffic signals and permanently closed a major intersection along State Route 20 in Burlington.

Crews:
• Turned off the signal and permanently closed access to/from SR 20 at the Peterson Road/Goldenrod Road intersection, just west of I-5.
• Permanently closed Goldenrod Road between SR 20 and Andis Road.
• Turned on a new signal at Garrett Road and opened a new section of road between SR 20 and Peterson Road.
• Turned on a new signal at Nevitt Road and opened a new section of road between SR 20 and Goldenrod Road.
• Temporarily diverted southbound I-5 on- and off-ramp traffic to Nevitt Road.

“This is a major milestone and a major change for drivers,” Engineering Manager Marco Foster said.

With traffic temporarily diverted to Nevitt Road for southbound I-5 access, crews will be able to complete the new, elevated southbound I-5 on-and off-ramps.

This project will help relieve congestion and improve safety along five miles of SR 20 and at the heavily traveled I-5/SR 20 interchange.
