Washington State Ferries 70th Anniversary

On June 1, 1951, Washington State Ferries began operations following the state’s purchase of the ferry system from Puget Sound Navigation Company (Black Ball Line). Thanks to 70 years of well-trained crews, highly skilled staff and a focus on customer service, we've been proud to serve our state for seven decades!
