Skagit River Bridge permanent replacement, Phase II
Phase 2 construction began in July to build the permanent replacement for the Skagit River Bridge span.

This summer, a new permanent span for the collapsed section was built adjacent to the temporary sections.

Max J. Kuney Construction of Spokane was awarded the $6.87 million contract to build the permanent fix for the bridge.

On Saturday night, Sept. 14, contractor crews closed I-5 and detoured traffic through Burlington for roughly 19 hours to remove the temporary spans and move the new, permanent span into place.

Crews opened the bridge with the new span two weeks before the contractual deadline, which was October 1.
