A trip to the dentist? No, it’s just the SR 99 tunnel boring machine’s screw conveyer
Crews in Japan install the SR 99 tunnel boring machine’s screw conveyor in summer 2012. The screw conveyor will transport excavated soil from the front of the machine to a conveyor belt that will reach up to 9,000 feet in length by the time the machine finishes its journey beneath downtown Seattle. Soil will be transported by barge to a disposal facility on the west side of Puget Sound. Tunneling will start in summer 2013.
