Recent rains in the Blueridge mountains of Virginia have been a blessing for mountain streams and rivers. Here you see the lower falls.

Heading west on Rt 211 out of Warrenton, VA you travel to the town of Sperryville, Va on the eastern side of the Blueridge Mountains. In town, head south on Rt. 522 for a half mile and take a right on Rt. 231 south toward Madison. Drive about 10 miles to the town of Etlan and take a right on the road immediately in front of the local grocery store there...this takes you west. Follow the winding road for about 4 miles to a deadend. If you take a left, you'll wind up at Grave's Mtn Lodge in Syria, VA. So take a right and follow this road to the NPS parking lot...there is a NPS entrance fee. Take a fairly easy 35 minute hike to the lower falls, passing numerous smaller beautiful falls along the way.
