March to Unite
United Methodists joined with leaders and members of other Methodist denominations, as well as representatives of area Christian organizations and a mosque in a March to Unite in Pittsburgh on Saturday morning, Sept. 7, 2019. Groups gathered at Freedom Corner in the Hill District and Calvary United Methodist Church on the North Shore to march to Market Square downtown for a rally. The event was planned by Pittsburgh District Superintendent Dawn Hand and a Pan-Methodist Council in effort to demonstrate unity among people of God against racism, political disharmony, and other forces that cause division; to bring people together in a public witness of uniting across social, religious, political, economic, theological and all labels that often times divide us. "We witness enough mayhem & division in our communities and in our nation. God help us, the same division holds true in our churches," Rev. Hand said.
