Bird Festival 2014 - Kolka, Latvia

Hello!

 

Greetings from Latvia! Participating on World Migratory Bird Day's event -

it was a new and great experience for Latvia and our team - nature tourism

company DABAS TŪRES (Nature tours).

 

The program of our first Bird Festival includes:

birdwatching excursions

public bird ringing demonstrations

opening of National Geographic photo exibition "Migration" in Kolka

evening with folk musicians and songs about birds

workshops for children.

Results -

First "Bird Festival 2014" have been succcesfully finished at Kolka Cape,

Latvia!

More than 10 000 birds from 142 species have been counted during those

days.

Birding highlights includes adult male Red-footed Falcon, Carrion Crow,

Citrine Wagtail, singing male Ortolan Bunting, more than 1000 migrating

Barnacle Geese (one of best migration census for this species).

Bird ringing revealed 62 specimens from 15 species, including 4

Red-breasted Flycatchers, 4 Red-breasted Shrikes and Thrush Nightingale.

As well ringing demonstrations for local school children all visitors of

Bird Festival have been organized.

More than 170 participants have been introduced with bird life during these

days, thanks to our guides.
