This week I was talking with the wonderfully talented Louise of Art and Ghosts about twins:
and I promised to post a picture of a shadow box I made about six years ago. I don't usually work with figures in my sewn artwork, but this one I had to do, to pay a little homage to the twin brothers that were born before me and didn't get to live their lives. I mixed together my newborn face and my younger brother's face for each, one with a little more me, one with a little more him, and put them together in a safe place. I always tried to imagine them, and know they're as much invention as anything I make, but knowing that I'm here because they're not, I felt they gave me a gift I could never repay.
