Swan Family 024
One of my friends who monitors the breeding pair and their family on the Union Canal had tipped me off she saw the whole family near Fountainbridge mid-afternoon. Sadly I had gone for a walk and was in a totally different part of town.
I thought I would try going that way on the return leg of today's stroll, thinking they would be long gone further back up the canal to the main nest, but no, I was lucky, and there they were, babies (now a month old and getting so much bigger).
As I watched one of the parents moved over into the reeds, followed by the other parent, and they began grabbing more material with their bills to add to a nest, with the little ones all hopping up out of the water into a small bed among the reeds right by the edge of the canal, settling down for a rest. Pointed them out to a couple of folks walking by with small children and the kids all went over for a look and were delighted.
