Swan Family 017
I always try to keep an eye out for our local breeding pair of mute swans on the Union Canal, and have been lucky enough to get photos of them and their cygnets each spring for a few years. A friend who monitors them and posts updates online let me know they had nested and had the cygnets a couple of weeks back, but much further long from me.
Today as I was planning my single allowed exercise walk I was told they were along around Fountainbridge, so I walked up there and yes, there they were, the whole family!!!
Please excuse posting quite so many, but I just kept clicking away - being on the correct stretch of the canal at just the right time they are passing is pure luck, so I made the most of it and took as many photos as I could, and a quick video clip. The young cygnets are still at the tiny fluffball stage and just so gorgeous it broke my Cute-o-meter.
Hopefully I will, like previous years, get to take some photos of them over the next few months as they grow before being mature enough to leave mum and dad and fly off on their own adventures. But for now it's just the cutest family, the annual miracle of nature, right here in the heart of the city.
I don't know about the rest of you, but with the stresses and worries of the last few months of Lockdown and pandemic and everything else, I need this natural magic and wonder more than ever, really makes the soul sing.
