Union Canal, autumn evening 01
Walking home from pub this evening, along the Union Canal. These are all improvised shots, using the timer in night mode and sitting the camera on handy railings or posts to get a steady shot in lieu of a tripod.
Taken at the very end of Blue Hour on the way home tonight, this is in and around Lochrin Basin, where the Union Canal now terminates. It used to go beyond where the Akva bar now sits in the modern buildings that came with regeneration around the once derelict canals, across the nearby main road and round behind the buildings across from it, but now it finishes here.
It was semi-derelict for a long time after a long decline, but thankfully these days it has been regenerated, people live on house boats here year round, many tour boats come along during the hols, the towpath runs all the way to connect to the Forth & Clyde Canal taking you by foot or bike all the way from the centre of Edinburgh to the middle of Glasgow. This end, just ten minutes walk from Edinburgh Castle, now boasts apartments, officesm student blocks, restaurants and bars. What a change to just a few years back...
