sleeping among the dead 01
The festival is over but historic Greyfriars kirkyard was still very busy with groups of tourists exploring the crumbling old memento mori on the tombs. And between the headstones and mausoleums I saw this chap, rough sleeping, his worldly belongings in a couple of bags stashed under one stone memorial behind him, a camp bed set up next to it.
I know Edinburgh's old graveyards are sometimes used by homeless folk sleeping rough, and I have seen the odd person having a doze in daylight hours, but not seen someone set up camp like this in daylight. Large groups of tourists were walking past him just a few feet away from him. No home except among the quiet dead and loudly chattering tourist crowds, poor bugger. I decided to shoot just from the side and not the front so you can't see his full face, to leave him some privacy.
