Edinburgh on Burns Night

Walking home from work this evening, a brief dry spell in between days of howling wind and driving rain. Paused on North Bridge, which connects the Old Town to the Georgian-era New Town, with Waverley Station in the valley beneath the bridge. It's a superb spot to drink in views of both Old and New Town and admire Edinburgh's remarkable geology and the cityscape it shapes. I see this view most days and yet after all these years I still find myself pausing for a moment just to take it in and admire the sheer, stunning beauty Edinburgh offers up.

 

Tonight is the 25th of January, Burns Night, when we celebrate our national poet of Scotland, Robert Burns, and this is how the city he visited so often looks like on this evening. Improvised night shot - set timer and sat camera on the railing of the bridge since I didn't have the tripod, and crossed my fingers...
