Bass Rock at the end of a winter's day 02
The mighty Bass Rock, which has, over the long centuries, been a monastic retreat, an offshore fortress and a prison, but these days is home to one of the largest offshore seabird colonies in Europe, just off the coast from North Berwick and a major landmark on the east coast of Scotland.
I've taken so many pics of this distinctively shaped, historical island over the years, but then I see it in changing winter light like this and I simply can't help but take another couple. This was the last hour of the brief winter day, the island tinged copper, sea going dark blue, and huge shadows being cast on the ancient geology. Bitingly cold sea breeze, but luckily you don't get that in the photo!
