ALBERTA KEYRING TAGS 1946-1968 | by woody1778a

Here is a run of Alberta keyring tags issued by the War Amps of Canada for motorists to put on their keyring in case the keys are lost. When a set of keys were found with these keyring tags all the finder would have to do is drop the keyring in a mailbox and the keys would be returned to the owner. These were first issued in 1946 with the 1946 tag showing the original plate with an expiry date of EX-31-3-47.

These keyring tags were issued in pairs and many of these pictured here are in pairs. The 1962 tag #AA2778 was issued to a government employee since the license number begins with an "AA" prefix. The all numerical 1965 pair and the all numerical 1961 single was issued to a non passenger vehicle while passenger vehicles had a two letter prefix and four numbers at the time. From 1946 until 1972 Alberta keyring tags were miniatures of the owner's license plate which the owners had on their cars. This set is missing 1947, 1948 and 1949.
