Columbian Ground Squirrel

(Urocitellus columbianus)

These little guys are so common here in the Okanagan but are so tricky to catch with a camera. They are often seen basking on a stone in the sun or nervously scrounging for food but as soon as your bicycle comes to a stop and the camera comes out, the marmots have returned to the shelter of their burrow waiting for you to leave. I set the tripod up with a remote trigger and hid across the street waiting for this fellow to come back out and play but he was not so fooled by my tactics.)
