walpole cinema ealing

when the walpole cinema was demolished to make way for the ealing broadway shopping centre, the beautiful tiled facade was moved and stuck on a building nearby facing a car park, great that its survived but what a shame its not been put to better use

the walpole operated from 1912 until 1972 and was demolished in may 1981

    Thank you.
That's the first time I've seen it in colour.
Would they be the original colours?
    They still seem very bright.

I was under the impression that the Walpole originally stood in Bond Street, Ealing, where the Old Orleans Restaurant is now.

it did indeed stand in Bond St, the cinema was demolished in 1981 and the facade rebuilt approx 100 meters away

The Walpole was further along Bond Street than where the - now closed - Old Orleans restaurant is. The entrance was by the YMCA, and the auditorium was located some distance from the road behind the shops. Access was via a long corridor from the foyer, which came out halfway down the right hand side of the cinema, at the front of the rear stalls, which were heavily raked. There was only the one floor.

By the way, it WASN'T demoilished to make way for the Ealing Broadway Centre, which opens out onto HIGH Street, not Bond Street.
