Utah Governor Herbert signs bills in fight for federal land

"The bill is focused on going after lands controlled by the U.S. Forest Service and the Bureau of Land Management. National parks, military institutions, Native American reservations and congressionally approved wilderness areas and monuments are protected in the bill and would not be sold off by the government under the plan.
Legislative attorneys have warned lawmakers that HB 148 could likely be seen as unconstitutional. The legislative note in the bill states that the Supreme Court has ruled that Congress has the power to dispose of the lands the federal government owns and that the power is not subject to any time limitations.
Herbert stated he welcomes the dialogue that will come forward from this bill.
"It is a pathway forward for us to rebalance our standing with the federal government," Herbert said.
