WIPO Director General Francis Gurry and the Chief Executive and Comptroller of the UK IP Office (IPO), John Alty, signed a Joint Statement on October 2, 2012, aimed at strengthening cooperation to promote the understanding of IP and IP systems, especially in developing countries. Under the agreement, which comes into force immediately and will be reviewed after two years, the IPO will provide experts for WIPO workshops and seminars.
Welcoming the UK Government’s support for WIPO's work, Mr. Gurry said: "We look forward to working closely with the UK IPO in promoting the use of IP in developing and least developed countries, and ensuring that all countries benefit from the global knowledge economy."
