This is from a running shoot I did for a friend from school. She is a long distance runner (she did a 100km race the weekend after our shoot).
Strobist: I used a variable ND filter to allow me to bring the aperture up to f4. This was shot in the middle of the day (nearly noon, though the sun isn't actually directly overhead). I then highlighted her with a small shoot through umbrella (18in or so) mounted on a stand at eye level. The flash was a SB-700, triggered by an SU-800 (yes, IR triggers can work in broad daylight, just not at great distances).
I'd like to note the lighting inspiration came from here: www.flickr.com/photos/simplelogik/8249571246/
