Waiting to promote Stand By Me on Good Morning America in 1986

    Newer Older

I forget what day this picture was taken, but it was 1986, right after Stand By Me had been released. There we are, sitting on chairs in the green room, waiting to go be interviewed by (I think) Ron Reagan, Jr. It was my first trip to New York, and I remember how excited I was to go to that huge, almost mythical city, see Times Square, ride the subway, visit the Statue of Liberty, and hang out with Jerry in his home town.

This photo captures our personalities perfectly: River and Corey are focused and serious (Corey is even wearing a tie and drinking coffee!) I am listening to the same person they are, but I'm not even trying to contain how excited I am to be going on a television show that I had been watching with my Aunt Val since I could remember, in front of the whole country, no less.

My favorite part of this picture, though, is Jerry. It's almost like he caught my mom or dad taking this picture of us, and decided to strike a pose, just to be silly. I just love that he isn't taking the thing too seriously, and that he's just having fun and enjoying the whole thing. As I got older and began to feel like the teen magazine publicity stuff was taking over my life, it stopped being fun, and it started to feel like a chore. I always envied that Jerry seemed to take it all in stride, keep it in perspective, and just have fun with it.

    (There's more in my blog.)

Very cool. That movie is in my list of all-time faves... one of the first DVDs I purchased when building my movie collection. Thanks for the insight on everyone's personalities. Jerry doesn't look as chubby here as he did in the film.

Thank you for posting this, Wil! Stand By Me is a movie that changed my life (although I was 12 at the time) and will remain my all time favourite movie until I die).

And I fell for all of you boys from this movie.
Hell, even watched TNG cause you were on it.

and I was one of those little girls who got Teen Beat, Tiger Beat, Big Bop, etc...just so I could have pictures of all of you to plaster on my walls.

Also love you explaining how your different personalities shine through in this picture

River and Jerry were super fun, but Feldman was the biggest douche ever. I hated that SOB and stopped watching his movies altogether. Jerk face.

Sorry, this is a brother's perspective.

Hi, I'm an admin for a group called Supreme Awesomeness! Post some, award none!, and we'd love to have this added to the group!

What a neato and special photo. I was about 19 when SBM came out. One of my all-time favorites, and I even saw it in a real theater. God that time went by fast...

This is such a great candid photo and it's lovely to read the story that goes with it.

I bet you all had loads of fun filming it - although the bit with you all going through the river and having leeches attached to you can't have been much fun.

I just LOVE the film (and Stand By Me was the song we had as our first dance at our wedding 6 yrs ago today 30/08/03), it is one of my all time favourites.

Thank you for sharing this with us.

      Wil-
This is definitely one of my FAVORITE movies of all time. First time I saw it was on CMT this summer (wasn't born in the 80s). I can't wait to get the DVD online. There's just something about this movie that I love, to the point where I just can't explain it. So much more I could say, but I think I'll stop here.

Loved the book, loved the movie even better. I hated Kiefer for the longest time after that. (lol being a kid and all)
