2010 - My First DSLR
2010 was the first year I started shooting with a DSLR. Pricing had gotten to the point where I was able to pick up an Olympus E-420 with lens for $350 from Futureshop on Boxing Day. A good sale 5 years ago was the reason why I currently ended up with an Olympus E-M5 today :)
The Olympus E-420 was quite small and advanced in its day. It already had live view, can trigger remote flashes, had builtin sensor cleaning, can pixelmap on demand and most importantly it can mount my prized Carl Zeiss lenses with a simple cheap mechanical adapter.
The jump in image quality with the larger 4/3 sensor and 10 megapixels was astounding compared to the much smaller point and shoots I've been using. There's no going back to small digital sensors after this. This also opened up a whole new world of lens choices and fast autofocus for me. I had missed the autofocus revolution of the 80's and stuck with my manually focused Carl Zeiss lenses.
