I took this photograph of The Yorkshire Wheel in the grounds of the Royal York Hotel, shot at a near vertical angle as night fell, in freezing winter temperatures. After several attempts, I found just the right shutter speed to capture the movement of the illuminated carriages as the wheel rotated. The tree silhouetted against the dusk sky adds interest to the shot and gives perspective. A slight tweak to the levels and saturation brings out the colour in the lights.
This was my first photo to be published in a national magasine - Photography for Beginners in issue 10, March 2012. It was also my first image to feature in Explore.
