Checking Out Chaco and Threats From Fracking
The Greater Chaco region of northwestern New Mexico has been under siege from fracking. We went out to see how much the oil and gas industry has impacted around this culturally significant landscape in northwestern New Mexico.

In spite of Chaco's prominence in the history of indigenous peoples in America, the area is increasingly encroached upon by oil and gas interests. Today, wells, pumpjacks, pipelines, and drilling rigs are right on the doorstep of Chaco Canyon, the heart of the Greater Chaco region and the location of the Chaco Culture National Historical Park.

WildEarth Guardians is working to turn the tide of fracking in the Greater Chaco region and protect this sacred landscape from the oil and gas industry's relentless push to drill, frack, and develop the landscape.
