OSCAR REJLANDER: "THE TWO WAYS OF LIFE" (1857) | by William Charles Cross
Back to photostream

This has turned out to be one of my most popular Flickr posts, day in, day out, fueled by Google and Yahoo image searches for the artist and the name of the image.

This image as seen on Wildcard Gallery Of The Two Ways. (now Understanding Groups)

Thank you HughofBardfield

for the link to the artist--Oscar Rejlander--

and the info: "The Two Ways of Life" (1857),

an image created from separate images with a development technique

perfected by the photographer--a true pioneer and visionary.

This image and the one immediately below are paired as a tribute to the ability of photographers to bond across 150 years of the art. I have owned the black and white print, "The Two Way Of Life," for 40 years. During my first week on Flickr I ran across Fabiola's image. It was occurring to me then, in a powerful way, that Flickr would have treasures I more rewarding than anything I had suspected when I joined.

Please--no invites for this. I won't be displaying this in groups because neither image is mine.
